Alarm Systems
In the fast-paced world of intruder detection, many installers rush through jobs without taking due care to ensure cabling is neat and secure. We believe there’s always time to do it right—the first time. While we may not be the cheapest, our expert technicians understand a multitude of panels, from basic residential setups to multi-zone commercial systems with multiple partitions.
Wired vs. Wireless Alarm Systems
Wired Intruder Alarms
If feasible, a wired system is highly recommended. It guarantees a constant, physical connection to the control panel without the risk of signal interference. While the initial installation cost and labor are higher, the long-term reliability is unmatched for larger properties.
Wireless Alarm Technology
Wireless technology has a higher hardware cost but saves significantly on installation labor. It offers a much neater finish with no exposed trunking or drilling. These systems run on batteries; however, using modern lithium cells under normal usage, you can expect 3 to 5 years of reliable service before a replacement is needed.
System Components & Selection Guide
- Alarm Panel: The brain of the system, typically expandable (8, 16, 32, or 64+ zones) depending on the size of the property.
- Passive Infrared (PIR): Indoor or outdoor motion detectors. If you have animals, specific “pet-immune” passives must be specified to prevent false alarms.
- Door & Window Contacts: Magnetic switches for standard residential doors or heavy-duty industrial roller doors.
| Component | Primary Function |
|---|---|
| Control Panel | System Processing |
| PIR Beams | Motion Detection |
| Keypad | Arming / Disarming |
| Door Contacts | Perimeter Breach |
| Sounder (Siren) | Audio Deterrent |
| Strip Beams | Boundary Control |
| Lithium Cells | Wireless Power |
| Radio Unit | Armed Response Link |
- Keypad / Remotes: The primary user interface for arming, disarming, and programming your security zones.
- Sounder Device: The physical siren that acts as an immediate, high-decibel audio deterrent during a breach.
- Radio Transmitter: Connects the system to your chosen monitoring company. Note: Each registered reaction company owns the radio device and will typically remove it if you change service providers.
- Outdoor Detectors: Specialized perimeter defense mechanisms, including outdoor passives, point-to-point beams, and strip beams to stop intruders before they reach the building.
