Alarm Systems
Wired or Wireless?
Each option has its pros and cons. If at all possible, wired will always be a better bet as you are almost guaranteed that the connection to the panel will be there but the cost of installation may not make it feasible. Wireless technology is pricier but you save a bit on installation costs. Wireless is always going to be neater as well. They do, however, run on batteries which need to be replaced. The type of device, type of battery used and the frequency of use will determine the lifespan of a battery. Typically in “normal” use and using lithium batteries, you could get 3 to 5 years service from a battery.
You may have pets or small animals which may trigger your alarm so the correct detector or passive needs to be specified. Not all systems are “equal” although most of the base models are pretty standard.
Typical components to an intruder alarm system include:
- Alarm panel (typically 8, 16, 32, 64 and larger expandable zones)
- Passive Infrared beams – indoor or outdoor
- Door Contacts – for standard or larger industrial doors
- Cable or wireless transmission devices
- Keypad and / or remote(s)
- Sounder device e.g. the actual alarm
- Radio to monitoring / reaction company
Just remember, you would always need your alarm to be linked to a security company if you want armed response. Each registered reaction and monitoring company owns the radio or communication device of your alarm and would typically remove it if you changed service providers.
We are also able to supply and install a number of different outdoor detectors from outdoor passives, point-to-point beams and strip beams.
